An affidavit (a-f?-day-v?t) is a written statement of fact voluntarily made by a deponent under an oath or affirmation administered by a person authorised to do so by law. The name is Medieval Latin for he/she has declared upon oath.
The requirements for an affidavit can vary and are determined by the court in which they are to be submitted. Therefore it is incumbent on the deponent or his/her legal advisor to ensure they satisfy these requirements.
